Chiangmai Walking Streets

‘Walking Street’ is translated into Thai language ‘Ta-noen-khon-deurn’. There are two walking streets in Chiangmai; Wualai Walking Street and Tha Pae Walking Street. These two streets are closed to motor vehicle on Saturday evenings (for Wualai Walking Street) and on Sunday evenings (for Tha Pae Walking Street). These two events are open at 4 p.m. when the weather is cooling down until midnight to cater both local and foreign tourists to see and enjoy a lot of things. You'll have such a great time while walking along both sides of the road to choose and shop a great variety of indigenous goods at reasonable prices. There are many small shops of silver and lacquer wares, handicrafts, arts, hand-made garments, portrait paintings and a lot of beautiful jewels. Moreover, if you want to try northern foods, there are various kinds of delicious local food; e.g. Thai vermicelli with a green pepper curry or fish soup and noodles in curry soup.

If your legs are getting tired, a foot massage is available in almost every intersection to serve you after your long walk with reasonable prices. Moreover, you can enjoy and relax with local music and many special activities throughout the events such as Lanna dancing shows.

Chiangmai Walking Streets are more than a place to walk and shop. You can touch the atmosphere of Lanna style and the way of local people life. These two walking streets are very interesting and enjoyable. You shouldn't miss an opportunity to stop by once.

I love walking street. I have been once to the walking street at Wua-Lia road and many to the one at Tha-Par road. I normally went to the walking street to "see" :to see local goods, art work, performaces and crowded people brought life to the road. I like to walk and enjoy looking around than buying things. However, I can not stop mtself to buy food.A various kind of local food are available along the entire of the road. There is also a sort of local food center located in the temples. I love sitting in front of the temple hall having some Nam-ngeaw (kind of noodle) Khaw-ngeaw (rice stream with blood) and Khab-moo (fried pork skin), It is soooo "delicous"

I agree with Oy that "You shouldn't miss an opportunity to stop by once" and...well...hope to see you guys there...

Sometimes when I go to Sunday Walking Street, I get a massage.... at that one very lively corner. I get one of those massages where just shoulder and arms are massaged, so I can sit straight up. I do that because in this position I can watch the people who pass by. The people who walk the Walking Street are as colorful as the shops and shopowners! It's of course even better if you have a good friend sitting next to you, so you can gossip and giggle!

I like walking streets especially Sunday walking street on Ratchadamnoen Road. I love shopping there because there are many nice stuff and they are cheap! I bought cotton blouse for 120 Baht very nice and cheap. I also love food on walking street there are many choices. I love to go there with my friend so we can eat, chat and have foot massage ^_^

Your next visit to Chiang Mai, don't miss walking streets.

Chiang Mai walking street!
This is a place which is a symbol of Chiang Mai now because when we talk about visiting Chiang Mai, we will think of the walking street. Also, the walking street can attract the tourists from everywhere both Thai people and the foreigners to come to visit Chiang Mai
My friends who live in Bangkok, they want to visit Chiang Mai and asked me to take them to the walking street. I think that the charm of this walking street is that we can touch the Lanna tradition and culture like Oy said that we will see the local goods which can be the great souvenir for the tourist including the exotic cuisines that we can try only in Chaing Mai.

I hate going to the pedestrian street. I always end up buying too many stuff that I would never used them. It's too nice, too beautiful and too exotic. It's too much presentation of being "Chiang mai." More over, it's a 'once a week' fantacy world.

Who care?

However, I really enjoy walking around that street (if I could stop myself from buying anything.)

Shall we go there this Sunday?
(and please remind yourself to stop me when I gaze on some nice thing.)
